Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Ajax and Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek for a fee around £40m.
Van de Beek 23, who was set to join Real Madrid before the Coronavirus pandemic has been targeted and scouted vividly by Manchester United. He will become the club's first signing in this transfer window.
It is believed Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played a key role in convincing the Dutch midfielder to join the club despite interest from others.
Van De Beek will sign a five-year contract with Manchester United. The deal is not yet completed. The player will have his medicals in the coming days while personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
Donny Van de Beek, who can be deployed as a 6, 8 or a 10 was part of the exciting Ajax side that made it to the UEFA Champions League semis last two seasons. He has not featured in any of Ajax games this pre-season.
Man United are still keen on Jadon Sancho despite hitting a snag with their negotiations with Dortmund. A defender and striker are also the wish-list of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
