Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 to claim this year's UEFA Champions League. This is the sixth time the German giants are winning Europe's premier club competition.
The Bavarians who have been very impressive especially since Hansi Flick took over from Nico Kovac become the first team in Champions League history to win all their matches in the competition. They won all their 11 UCL fixtures.
The game might not have given us lots of goals but it was still an entertaining one. PSG started game very well exploiting Bayern's high line. Neymar and Mbappe's pace were concerns for the German outfit especially on the counter. PSG created some decent chances but failed to take them. Bayern came back in the game and started to worry PSG but the Ligue 1 Champions defended very well in the first half. Thiago Silva and Presnel Kimpembe in particular were brilliant on the night.
Jerome Boateng was replaced in the 25th minute by Niklas Sule due to an innjury. The first half ended goalless.
In the second half, Bayern got a foothold of the game. The dominated possession, they were very purposeful in their attack and solid defensively. They finally got a breakthrough in the 59th minute through a Kingsley Coman header from close range after a very lovely cross from Joshua Kimmich.
PSG tried everything but could not break this impressive Bayern Munich side. Thiago Alcantara had the midfield on lock-down for the Bavarians. His passing was sleek and his composure on the ball was simply majestic. PSG introduced Draxler, Veratti and Choupo-Moting to find the net but still could beat the Bayern Munich.
The game ended and it was celebration time for the Bayern players. Neymar and a few of the PSG players were in tears. Alaba and some of his teammates tried to console a few players from PSG but they were still going to celebrate the crowning of what has been a very impressive and imperious last few months.
Thomas Tuchel and his PSG side will try again next year but they should be proud of themselves. Special thanks goes to UEFA who managed to still complete the Champions League and Europa League despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has really been an enjoyable and memorable last few weeks.
